Happy Birthday Girl

Yipes, what a crazy week it's been so far! Following a crazy and wonderful weekend! Saturday was my birthday, so I went out to my favorite Irish pub with a great group of friends. I loved seeing everyone, and good times were had by all! I've decided that since I'm an old biddy now, I can finally pull off (faux) fur! J/k! But seriously, you can't go wrong with tactile accessories! Also, this is the debut of my smile. I think I like it more than 'serious model face'. : D

Some great pictures from Saturday night:

Smells Like Teen Spirit

Does anyone else remember the trends from the era when you 'came of age', so to speak? I do. Ah, early 90's grunge. Flannel shirts, ripped jeans, Chucks, ditsy floral print dresses, Docs. I could probably go on!

Obviously I'm still not raiding my dad's closet for his flannel shirts, but I still have special place in my heart for a comfy pair of jeans, a pair of Chucks, a ditsy floral dress, a bad ass pair of Docs. But now in a more grown up way. My ill fitting ripped jeans have been replaced with a pair of skinny jeans. My Chucks... haven't changed much! ; D  My ditsy floral print dresses... fit! And are more feminine. And my Docs? Well, now they are the awesome booties that I just acquired! I lurv them! I just got them yesterday and wore them out last night for a family birthday dinner at Clementine's. I must have been channeling my inner 90's bad ass with this outfit:

These boots are just plain awesome! Not too high, wedge, grippy soles. Comfortable! It's love. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch Reality Bites.

Grace Potter - Colors

This song just came on my Itunes and I remembered how much I absolutely love this song! I think I fall in love with it a little more every time I listen to it. It's just so beautiful and simple.

Adele - Rolling In The Deep

This post comes to you c/o Erin and her amazing taste in music! Wow! That's all I can say! Wow! Adele is just a truly amazing singer and this video is breathtaking! And I love her dress!

Lazy Confessions

Ok, I have a confession to make. I haven't been doing my 30 For 30. I know! :::Cringe::: I'm sorry! And I think I'm going to drop out. :::Hangs head in shame::: I think it's an awesome idea, but just not for me! My MO for dressing is usually based on my mood and whim! This challenge just made me feel stifled. The outfits that I put together just weren't me. I wasn't happy. And getting dressed usually makes me happy! BUT! It did force me to take a hard look at the contents of my closet and my shopping habits. I basically ripped my closet apart and pulled everything out, put it on, and asked myself some serious questions, like: Do I wear this alot? If yes, why? If not, why? The clothes that I do wear regularly: is there a theme? Can I come up with 5 or more different ways to style this? Etc. I got rid of some clothes. The stuff that I liked, but not on me. The stuff that was cute and cute on me, but uncomfortable in some way, shape, or form. The stuff that wasn't me, but I was going to experiment and step outside of my safety zone. And jumped right back into my safety zone b/c it just wasn't me! I also went shopping. Insult to injury, I know! But I went smart shopping! I asked the same questions: Would I wear this alot? If yes, why? If not, why? Does this fit my theme? Can I come up with 5 or more different ways to style this?

I did take pictures of what I've worn the last few days. These are me outfits! I was happy.

Beauty School Drop-Out

I just have to take a minute to gratuitously plug this stuff:

So, I have a little habit of trolling the travel size (haha, little habit, travel size...yeah) aisle of Target for fun new products. I picked up a little tub of this awesomeness a couple of weeks ago and I'm hooked! Let me tell you, this stuff rocks! And it smells so nice, too! It's made with Dead Sea Water, Carrot Juice, Carrot Seed Oil, Pumpkin Juice (Harry Potter?), Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Melon Juice, Sweet Potato Extract, Orange Juice, Sweet Almond Oil, Olive Oil, Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil, Green Tea Extract, Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract, Pomegranate Peel Extract, and is Paraben Free. I almost want to eat it, too! It retails for $12.99 for a 8.45 fl. oz. tub. Trust me, a little goes a long way! You can find it at Target or here.

Just found this necklace on Free People and I am so going to recreate it on my own!

I'll keep you posted. No pun intended!

Garden Of Delights

Check out these adorable Wearable Planters by Colleen Jordan! Love, Love Love!!! These are so ingenious! I, unfortunately, have two black thumbs, but I have a few friends who these would be perfect for!

Ah! Vacation! It was so nice to just sleep in and hang out in my pjs all morning! I actually had to force myself into real clothes to go grocery shopping. Really. There was kicking and biting. Even some hair pulling. It wasn't pretty. But real clothes went on and groceries were purchased! And now I'm back to pjs, One Tree Hill Season 1, and peanut butter filled pretzels. Life is good. : D

For some reason I was drawn to simple white on white today. With a pop of color, of course! I wish you could see the pearl bead appliquéd floral pattern on the front of this cardigan. It's so delicate and feminine! And it was so warm today that I just threw my trench coat on instead of my wool peacoat!

Ok, so I'm starting to see a challenge in the 30 For 30 Challenge. I miss the rest of my closet!!! :' (   I've been so inspired by everyone else's remixes that now I just want to dive right into my closet and go buck wild! But, no! I mustn't give up! I must carry on! I can power through this!

6/30

First of all, I just wanted to give a shout out to the Sun! Hey Sun!! Thanks for coming out today and warming our little world here in Maryland to a balmy 45 degrees! We really appreciate it! We've missed you! Are you going to stick around for a while? Please? I love you. You had me at 'Hello'...

I tried working a belt into this outfit, but the combination of stripes, belt, and boots just made me look like some weird pirate cowboy! Just add a peg leg and a horse named Silver and I'd be...well, I don't know what you'd do with me! Do circuses still have sideshow freaks?

I'm about to head back up to Erin and Benjamin's for an anti-Super Bowl party. Yep, that's right. Anti-Super Bowl party. But, would a party by any other name still have yummy food and beer? I think so!

So, hindsight being what it is (20/20), it occurred to me that, when, in the month of February, am I going to wear one pair of heels, let alone two?!?! So, if it's ok with everyone else, I'm going to switch my Born heels:

 for my Hunter wellies:

My feet (and my bum) will thank you!!!

I went up to Erin and Benjamin's house last night, and per the usual, had a blast! It was supposed to be a quiet dinner (mmmm, steamed scrimps and rice & beans!) and a movie night, but turned into a dance party! Erin and I put on a show for Benjamin, showing off our awesome Cha Cha moves we've been learning. Me thinks he was a bit unimpressed, but I think we rocked it!

Our new heroes are Michael Wentink and Beata! We want her costumes and for both of them to teach us how to dance like them!!! I think I have a girl crush on Beata!

4/30

Ah, bright colors and patterns, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways! Well, back outside! : D  My usual area is now less like an ice rink and more like a shower, but we're getting there.

An excerpt from a text conversation with Alexis yesterday:

Me: 'Is it spring yet?'
Lexi: '45 days!'
Me: 'Not soon enough!'
Lexi: 'Closer than yesterday'
Me: 'Eternal optimist.'
Lexi: 'Lol'

But she's right (don't tell her I said that! Her ego's big enough already! ; ) ), Spring will be here before we know it! We just need to hang in there!

On a side note, this scarf (made by John Hanly & Co.) is almost exactly like a scarf my mom had when I was little. I loved that scarf, so warm and fuzzy and a beautiful bright teal green! How could a 5 year old resist? I think my sister has it now. But when I saw this one at Marshall's, I had to have it! I even bought a plaid one in really pretty Fall colors for Erin for Christmas last year. I think she's been living in it. : )

3/30

Today was National Wear Red Day! Cardiovascular disease claims the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year, yet women are not paying attention. To dispel the myths and raise awareness of heart disease as the number one killer of women, the American Heart Association created Go Red For Women – a passionate, emotional, social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health. Fortunately I had a red top AND a red cardigan in my 30 For 30 choices, so I was able to participate today and show my support for this amazing cause!

Just an interesting fact about the scarf I'm wearing: the technique used to make it is called Bandhani. Bandhani is a popular type of tie and dye method in India were cloth is tied with thread and then dyed. It is the simplest and perhaps the oldest form of creating patterns on a plain piece of cloth.

BTW, indoor pictures= ick. Going back outside ASAP!
